SINGAPORE – A 58-year-old man who deliberately left a grenade-shaped object at the Clarke Quay MRT station is expected to be charged on Wednesday (October 24th).

Police said Tuesday night that the man had been arrested in September last year for uttering a false threat to alarm.

Police were alerted to the case of an unsupervised bag with a grenade-shaped gray object attached to the side at the MRT station, around 5 pm on September 16 of last year.

Officers from the Central Police Division and the Public Transport Security Command identified the man after a ground investigation and arrested him the next day. It is thought that he intentionally left the bag at the station.

The man will be charged under the United Nations anti-terrorism regulations. If he is found guilty, he could be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of up to 10 years and / or a fine of up to $ 500,000.
