MARSEILLE, France (AP) Croatian Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car joined Marseille from Red Bull Salzburg, becoming the first rookie of the year for the new French champion.
Caleta-Car played in a group match with Croatia, who lost 4-2 to France in the final last week.
He won four championship titles in Austria and three national cups with Salzburg.
The terms of the bids were not disclosed but the newspaper L'Equipe reports that Marseille has accepted 19 million euros for the 21-year-old, who was also targeted by the Spanish club of Seville.
Marseille finished fourth in the French league last season and lost 3-0 to Atlético Madrid in the Europa League final, missing a spot in the Champions League.
