Most lucrative air routes in the world

The top 10 most profitable airlines in the world has been revealed, with the British Airways service between London Heathrow and JFK New York.

The lucrative route makes $ 1 billion a year, or about 6 percent of BA's total revenue in 2017. On an hourly basis, this equates to $ 24,639 (£ 18,500).

It does not work like the highest wage per hour, a reward for the London Heathrow Emirates service in Dubai, which equates to $ 25,308 (19,000).

The service came in third place as a whole, producing $ 819 million (£ 613 million) in a single year.

OAG compiled the data by analyzing road revenues between April 2017 and March 2018.

Five of the top ten revenues come from London Heathrow, which may explain why the discussions around the proposed third runway are heated.

The top ten routes are also high-cost operations, combining generally large-scale services at a high frequency. The Sydney to Sydney service, which comes second in the list, operates around 65 flights a day, for example. It is also the most profitable national road ranking, generating $ 854 million (£ 639 million) annually.

Singapore Airlines' Heathrow Singapore service comes in fourth and earns $ 709 million (531 million pounds), while Cathay's London Heathrow Pacific Highway in Hong Kong ranks seventh with $ 631 million (£ 473 million).

According to OAG, these roads generally comprise a high proportion of commercial traffic and have a higher yield in the wild.

Although these flights provide the most revenue, the tickets do not always reflect this.

In 2016, Etihad, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, unveiled the world's most expensive flight with its "The Residence" Suite.

A one-way ticket between New York and Mumbai in this luxury compartment for two people costs £ 38,000, while a return ticket costs £ 52,000.

The "Penthouse in the Sky" comes with a butler, a chef and a 32-inch flat screen TV.
