Crutchlow was flown to Melbourne Alfred City Hospital where he underwent surgery on his tibia, but faces more surgeries in coming days.

FOX SPORTS 'Chris Vermeulen reported on Crutchlow's LCR Honda team boss Lucio Cecchinello.

"They were going to operate," said Vermeulen, "It was a small surgery last night to put an external fixator on Cal 's leg – it' s in such a mess – and then Wednesday.

"Then he said: 'We're hoping we're going to be back for the Sepang test.' That's a long way away, that's a shattered leg. So all the best to Cal, we hope he will recover soon. "

Motorsport.com reports that Stefan Bradl is expected to replace Crutchlow at the final two races of the season in Malaysia next weekend and in Valencia at fortnight later.

Crutchlow is also a key part of Honda's testing program, and the recovery will have a positive impact on the sport.

MOTO3 FREE PRACTICE 3

Moto3 bikes hit the track for their first Saturday running, but another shower hit the opening minutes to ensure a wet track throughout.

There have been many falls in the greasy conditions, the worst by Kazuki Masaki seven minutes into the session.

The Japanese rider crashed heavily at the Hayshed and was carried away on a stretcher.

Vicente Perez also crashed at the Hayshed corner, while title contender Marco Bezzecchi had his third crash of the weekend in the closing minutes of the session at Siberia.

Del Conca Gresini's title challengers lockd out the top two spots, Fabio Di Giannantonio fastest from leader Jorge Martin, with KTM's Darryn Binder third.

Bezzecchi would finish the session sixth.

MOTO2 FREE PRACTICE 3

Marcel Schrotter continued to run through all the conditions.

The German outpaced Alex Marquez by just under quarter of a second, with title hopeful Miguel Oliveira third.

Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia finished the session down the order in 18th.

It was Oliveira's KTM teammate Brad Binder that stole the headlines for the wrong reasons in FP3.

The South African crashed at high speed at the Hayshed on his fifth lap of the session. While Binder was unscathed his bike was not, flipping violently through the gravel.

Binder still holds the fastest time of the weekend, with no riders able to eclipse his best Saturday in FP3.

Remy Gardner also impressed in FP3, taking the 12th-fastest time and sitting in the backyard.
