SINGAPORE: Two weeks away from the National Day parade, the organizers are eager to unveil the stage, which, with its total area of 8500 m2, is the largest for the annual celebration.
Spectators will feel connected to the surrounding areas of Marina Bay, thanks to its scenography.
The backdrop of the stage consists of pivoting panels that, once opened, allow the public to enjoy an unobstructed view of Marina Bay. When they are closed, the audience will see a fresco of the iconic seaside of Singapore.
"This scene was designed with the principles of urban design in mind – the visual link for the audience and the backdrop, the consistency of materials and colors, and the colors of the surrounding buildings on the stage", said scenographer Quck Zhong Yi.
Behind spectator stands, there are 30 projectors that will project films on billboards.
"It's like in the good old days when you go to an open-air theater or movie theater where you watch the film, "said NPC 2018 Committee Chairman of the Communications and Multimedia Committee, Lieutenant-Colonel Chew Heng Hwa." So we're trying to create this nostalgic feeling among the crowd through a projection system on pivoting panels. "
This year's stage is also one of the highest in the history of the NDP and aims to ensure that viewers can clearly see the artists on stage.
According to Major Chris How, Vice President of the Infrastructure and Decoration Committee
"We do alignment tests and also try to make sure that the electrical and lighting cables are well maintained, "says Maj How.
"On the stage, we check all the component engines and make sure that the pivoting panels are able to meet the correct specifications for which we bid. "
The construction of the stage began in April of this year and required a total of 22,500 hours of work.
