OnePlus 6 vs Xiaomi Mi 8: choose the Chinese champion

[ad_1]

Many things in common

Although both smartphones do not come from the same manufacturer, they have a lot in common. Both devices have a notch and a screen / body ratio of 83.8%, which means that the devices are similar on the front. The notch of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is a bit more pronounced, reminding us even more of the lines of the iPhone X.

In addition to their similar size (154.9 x 74.8 x 7.6 mm for the Mi 8 against 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.8 mm for the OnePlus 6), smartphones also have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and 6GB RAM (the OP6 also has a variant with 8GB RAM). On the memory side, Xiaomi and OnePlus have decided to opt for the same strategy as Apple. So, forget about any slot to expand the storage. For both smartphones, you can choose between 64, 128 and 256 GB of internal memory.

Of course, from the point of view of performance but also of battery life, both are very similar. In both cases, the phones are smooth and fast. You will not have any worries about games or multitasking. On the whole, they are two excellent smartphones and the differences are in the details, but also in your preferences.

You want to have customer service

OnePlus 6 is the only one of the two smartphones officially available in the United States right now. For the Xiaomi Mi 8, you have to go through the worries of import (no warranty, no customer service, expensive and slow transportation, customs fees, etc …).

On the contrary, OnePlus 6 can be easily purchased from its website or from Amazon's e-commerce giant

You want an interface close to the stock Android

Two schools face each other in our duel. On the one hand, OxygenOS 5.1.9 is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and is relatively "pure", in the sense of Google. On the other hand, the MIUI overlay of Xiaomi which is also based on Android Oreo, but closer to iOS aesthetically.

OxygenOS will please fans of Android. The menus are relatively similar (despite some slight differences), there is already the influence of Android P. Navigation by gestures is also possible (Xiaomi also offers). A swipe up will take you to the home screen. A swipe from the left or right side of the bottom border acts as a return key. To access multitasking, simply slide up and down. On another note, there is no bloatware.

You want a red smartphone

If you like originality (and red color), the latest version of OnePlus 6 will delight you. Available at launch only in midnight black, mirror black and silk white, the OnePlus 6 is now available in red. According to Pete Lau, one of the founders of the brand, the red color was obtained using an original lamination technique for "a more elegant red, which leaves a strong impression of quality and value"

The OnePlus 6 may be a flagship product, but it is one of the few to offer a headphone jack. The OnePlus smartphone has not succumbed to the temptation to go totally wireless, despite the launch of the Bullets Wireless headphones. Always a practical option to own.

You Should Choose The Xiaomi Mi 8 So …

Your Budget Is Smaller

The budget issue is always paramount when deciding between two models. In the absence of an official price list, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is usually cheaper to buy than the OnePlus 6, and this despite the fact that it must be imported. Sites like Gearbest regularly offer good prices. Compared to OnePlus 6, you can save more than one hundred dollars

Photo quality is your priority

Although both smartphones are relatively good In photography, my preference always turns to Xiaomi's smartphone. Of course, the differences are not obvious but the double camera of the Mi 8 (12 MP (f / 1.8) + 12 MP (f / 2.4)) does better. The exposure is accurate, the colors are rich and vivid, the white balance is excellent and the noise on photos taken in low light is rather limited. Special mention: the bokeh effect is very successful.

In terms of results, the quality of the image proposed by Xiaomi Mi 8 is slightly higher, which you can see in the photos taken with the two cameras in these galleries:

You want to be different [19659066] With Mi 8 not being officially available, the smartphone becomes more scarce and so it's a bonus to the originality and daring of the camera owners. The Mi 8 is a pretty successful attempt by the Chinese manufacturer, able to compete with all high-end smartphones. The smartphone is full of qualities: an attractive design, an AMOLED display and a compact size. Finally, its biggest flaw is that it is not marketed in the rest of the world.

Which one should you choose?

Obviously, we are dealing with two Chinese flagship smartphones of very high-end. Both units are well designed and have a high build quality, and offer excellent specifications. Personally, I advise you to opt for the OnePlus 6 since the Xiaomi Mi 8 is not officially available and you can not get customer service or a guarantee on it. With the flagship OnePlus, I do not feel compelled to sacrifice anything, and that's a big feeling when you spend hundreds of dollars on a smartphone. His charge of high-speed Dash is also an important argument in his favor.

On which phone do you think?
