Police looking for a man who threatened to blow up a pawn outside the Boon Lay MRT station

SINGAPORE: Police are looking for a man who threatened to blow up a pawn shop outside the Boon Lay MRT station Saturday afternoon (July 28) after an attempt failed to steal it.

The man entered the pawn shop around 16:30, police said.

Armed with a knife and a gun that would be a replica, the man demanded that an employee remit him some money and jewels.

When the employee refused, the man reportedly said that he would blow up the store, saying that he had an explosive device.

"The man then threw the object over the counter and fled the pawnshop without taking any object, said object was immediately thrown out of the pawnshop by the staff who then called the police, "said the Singapore police. Facebook Message

"The police had established that the object contained only a few electrical components."

Authorities add that no one was injured.

The incident resulted in the closure of MRT Station Exit C near the Jurong Point Mall. Police said earlier that they were investigating a suspicious object, which revealed nothing incriminating.

The pedestrian plaza near Jurong Point and several shops were cordoned off. Agents were seen in and out of a ValueMax pawn shop to take pictures

For information, the police stated that the suspect was approximately 1.75 m tall and wore a pink turban, a blue jacket and long brown pants.
