SINGAPORE – The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is illuminating this year's Deepavali with a video clip posted on their Facebook page on Monday, November 5th.
Deepavali, which falls on Tuesday, is a Hindu festival also known as the Festival of Lights, intended to mark the triumph of good over evil.
In a video of more than 2 minutes, we can see policemen singing and dancing – in uniform and traditional Indian costume – on a remixed Tamil song, originally from the Vasantham chain of Mediacorp and composed by Mr. Vicknesh Saravanan.
Subtitled in English, the song was rearranged by members of the police. Three police officers, who figured prominently in the video, sang the basics of the song.
The police accompanied his message on the melody, with the following caption: "The SPF wishes all those who celebrate the Festival of Lights a merry Deepavali, organize a happy party with your family and your loved ones."
The video was viewed about 17,000 times in the space of five hours and received several compliments from Internet users who felt that it was a good effort from the from the police.
The police told the Straits Times that the video had been entirely made in-house and that no external supplier had been hired for production.
The video, which was launched for the first time in September, took two nights to film and a few weeks to plan, record and produce. Some 30 to 40 officers, mostly police officers, participated in shows and parades, as well as officers from various professions, such as the emergency response team and the police. investigators.
This is not the first time the police have produced festive video clips. Earlier in the year, police also released videos on Chinese New Year and Hari Raya.
The first edition of the Chinese New Year, which brought together policemen of different races singing a mixture of classic festive songs, attracted 259,000 views and more than 2,200 shares. The clip of Hari Raya has attracted more than 286,000 views and 4,500 shares.
A police spokesman said videos "show that police are part of the community and we celebrate the same holidays as everyone else".
For the moment, no project has been prepared yet.
Other organizations such as the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) have also made similar videos.
SCDF had this year prepared a short clip for the Chinese New Year, featuring dogs – this year's zodiac animal – from its K-9 unit.
