Today, Porsche celebrates. The German automaker has managed to set a new record for the fastest lap around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, recording a time of 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds with Timo Bernhard driving an unrestricted 919 Hybrid Evo. What better way to mark the 70th anniversary of the company!

To say thanks to customers and fans around the world, Porsche released a short emotional video featuring people born in the same years when the brand released some of its most important models. It all started with the very first Porsche, the 356 of 1948.

"For 70 years, we have been producing our sports cars with passion, thanks for the return of the favor."

Porsche's existence actually began in the 1930s, when Ferdinand Porsche set up a shop in the center of Stuttgart with the name "Dr. Ing. Hc F. Porsche GmbH." However, the first model of the brand was recorded June 8, 1948. Knowing this, it is probably more accurate to say that Porsche celebrates 70 years since the very first vehicle bearing the Porsche name and logo was registered.

The first 356 was designed by Porsche's son, Ferry Porsche, and was a hand-made aluminum prototype. It was developed using mainly Volkswagen components and featured a lightweight aluminum body and hand-beaten on a tubular steel frame. In total, 52 copies of this sports car were manufactured during a year in a small garage in the city of Gmund in Austria. Eventually, the company moves to Stuttgart

Under the hood is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder VW engine, mounted in front of the rear axle. Porsche Ferry has increased the engine bore, increased its compression and added two carburetors to increase the factory power of 25 horsepower to an impressive power of 40 hp.

The rest, as they say, belongs to history.
