SINGAPORE – It was a kind of homecoming for President Halimah Yacob, as she attended the graduation ceremony of the Law School of the National University of Singapore, Thursday afternoon (July 12, 1965). She graduated from the NUS Law School in 1978. She returned in 1999 and graduated in 2001.
Approximately 360 law graduates were conferred degrees at the ceremony.
Thursday's event gives the kickoff of the first of 23 inauguration ceremonies that take place at the University Cultural Center for eight days. A total of 6,785 students will receive their bachelor's degree while 4,082 will be awarded postgraduate degrees such as their master's degree or doctorate.

In his speech, Professor Tan also paid tribute to Judge Chao Hick Tin, Senior Judge at the Singapore Supreme Court, for his "unshakeable service and dedication" and "outstanding contributions" to the country.
Judge Chao, 75, was presented Doctor Honoris Causa, the highest honor of the university, by President Halimah.
Prof Tan said that Judge Chao had, during a career of more than 50 years, held some of the highest legal positions in Singapore. -general and judge of appeal to the Supreme Court. He added that the judge's impact on the legal field is also expanding on the international scene.
