The promising development of Honda engines this season has reinforced Red Bull's optimism: it can aim for good results as soon as it launches its partnership with the builder next year.

In anticipation of a major winter when Honda must finalize its 2019 specification, ExxonMobil revealed that its planning was far more advanced than last year.

David Tsurusaki, Global Head of Motor Sport Technology at ExxonMobil, told Autosport: "The announcement of this announcement with Honda and Toro Rosso last year meant we were only ready for the tests in Barcelona in December, which was a short deadline.

"But now, after a year of continuous changes, tweaks and tests, we are already working on 2019 – that's really what you want to be.

"You do not want to do all your upgrades and preparations during the year, and then by the end of 2019, you have to start working on it, you want to work in 2019 quite early.

"So, the fact that we had the chance to work again with the guys from Honda, get to know them, get things done, start testing, and then start working on the single cylinder already with the tests. Sustainability of the full V6 now, it's exactly where we want to be.

"We are very excited, we are in a good position and think that they have the right fuel and the right lubricants ready for 2019."

The fact that ExxonMobil has a working relationship with Honda next year is another factor that will contribute to progress, while the recent partnerships with Renault and Mercedes were customer focused and had to struggle for a period of time. Dynamic test.

Asked about the help, Tsurusaki said: "I would not say it's a major advantage, but it's a big step forward.

"I think we're already seeing the benefits of the quick response that we can get, which means that if we get the data, we can adjust it from there, and if you do it in weeks or months, that's all the difference."
