Federer has had several difficult months with his last tournament win at the Stuttgart Open in June.

After returning to Basel this week, Roger Federer took the win with a two-set victory over Marius Copil in the final this afternoon.

This is the ninth title that Federer won in his home tournament with his first triumph at the Swiss Indoors in 2006.

The tournament taking place in Basel, most of the field interviews were conducted in German or Swiss German.

But when he addressed the crowd and those watching on their home TV screens, Federer is sure everyone feels included.

While much of his speech was in German and Swiss-German, Federer then spoke English to address his fans.

"For those who do not speak German and German Swiss very well, thank you very much for coming," Federer said.

"Thank you for supporting me this week.

"It's a magical week for me and I can not thank you enough.

"It was a dream race for me so thank you all for coming."

And then, the 37-year-old spoke briefly in French.

He was quoted in French: "I promised my fans to say a few words in French, so here we are."

Federer is scheduled to take part in the Paris Masters next week with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal also in the running.

The draw has already been made with Federer on the same side as Djokovic, while Nadal has won the most favorable draw.

Djokovic holds the best record of the tournament after winning four titles while Nadal has never won at the Paris Masters.

Federer's only victory in the tournament came in 2011 after beating Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in two sets.
