- Samsung, in an effort to attack Corning and Gorilla Glass, has developed a glass panel that is supposedly "unbreakable".
- In various tests conducted by the Underwriters Laboratories testing company, the panel survived drop tests of 1.2 meters, 1.8 meters without any damage.
- These panels should be on Samsung's next-gen flagship phones like the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy X Flex.
Gorilla Glass 6 was recently announced by Corning. Gorilla Glass has been a standard on most flagship phones for over a decade. Since its launch in 2007, Gorilla Glass has been used in more than six billion devices worldwide. Its latest variant, the feature of Gorilla Glass 6 is its ability to survive 15 drops continuously on hard surfaces from a height of about 1 meter (3.2 feet) without breaking. Now, to attack Corning, Samsung has now developed its own glass panel that has been certified as "Unbreakable" by Underwriters Laboratories testing company. The new Samsung Display has even exceeded the standards set by the US Department of Defense
The difference between the Samsung panel and a normal glass panel is that instead of only using conventional glass to manufacture Samsung has developed the flexible OLED panel with an unbreakable plastic substrate and a cover window securely bonded to it. This combination makes the panel more resistant than the glass and OLED screens used by most current phones.
"This reinforced plastic window is similar to glass in terms of weight, transmissivity and hardness. without much hassle, "said Hojung Kim, general manager of Samsung Display's communications team
The tests were conducted by product safety experts at Underwriters Laboratories (UL). a drop test of 1.2 meters 26 times in a row, that the panel succeeded without any damage. Then, there was a drop test of 1.8 meters, which also passed. High and low temperature tests. The test results also saw the panel surpass the military standards used by UL.
Samsung Display also released a video in which their panel is seen surviving with several hammer blows. Samsung's screen offers the same visibility as a conventional glass, with the same weight, despite its added resistance.
There are many advantages to to have a light .. Shatterproof plastic glass weight panel on your phone. Let's face it, we are all a bit clumsy with our phones and let them down a lot. Thus, a panel like this will ensure that the next time your phone reaches the ground, the repair costs will not burn you.
Samsung Display has not yet revealed any specific information on its unbreakable screens. The panels are expected to be on upcoming Samsung flagship aircraft like the Galaxy S10, or the Galaxy X flexible phone.
Considering how much the new flagship phones cost, and how expensive it is to fix them in case of damage, it's quite exciting to see a screen that could withstand heavy drops and shocks without breaking. Other than phones, there are many applications of such a glass panel in educational environments, cars, televisions, military service and so on.
