TOKYO, July 11, 2018 – (JCN Newswire) – Showa Denko KK (SDK, TSE: 4004) and Cinnamon Inc. (Cinnamon) will jointly develop a Database system equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) to save technical documents. This development program has been accredited as a project funded by the New Energy and Technology Development Organization (NEDO) as part of NEDO's "Joint IA Development Support Program".
Technical documents accumulated by the Japanese manufacturing industry contain a huge amount of knowledge. However, most of these documents are stored as paper data. If we want to make the most of the technical knowledge of our ancestors and use them as a source of new value, we should convert the "analog data" into "digital data" and store it in electronic databases.
Manually convert massive amounts of data onto paper. In addition, existing optical character reading (OCR) technology can not read technical documents containing handwritten characters with sufficient accuracy. SDK and Cinnamon have agreed to jointly tackle the aforementioned problem and will promote the development of a database. system in order to use technical documents. The system will be equipped with AI-based automatic OCR technology to accurately scan paper data containing handwritten characters and a convenient data search function.
