The Navy of the Republic of Singapore (RSN) is developing a suite of submarine trainers (STS) to train the crews of the new fleet of four Type 218SG submarines.

The new trainer suite is currently in the design review phase and should include training, steering and diving systems, virtual procedure and maintenance training.

It should allow the RSN to train and qualify submarine crew members for operations in a realistic and simulated environment at sea.

Type 218SG Ships have been designed to replace ships Archer and Challenger. class submarines.

The vessel has a surface displacement of 2,000 t, a submerged displacement of 2,200 t and a submerged speed of more than 15 k.

Construction work on the first two Type 218SG submarines has already begun, while the first steel cut for the remaining two ships was completed in January.

The Singapore Navy should begin shipping ships in 2021.
