Singapore provides $ 280,000 worth of humanitarian relief to Laos for flood relief

VIENTIANE, Laos: A Singaporean contingent of Singaporean armed forces (SAF) officers arrived in Laos on Thursday evening (July 26) to deliver $ 280,000 worth of humanitarian relief assistance in the province of Attapeu.

The contingent of 19 people, including several members of the media, landed at Vientiane airport aboard a C-130 transport plane from the Republic of Singapore (RSAF) around 20:30 local time .

Supplies must help displaced civilians affected by sudden floods after the collapse of the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy Dam in Attapeu Province and the # 39, flooding of several villages.

Dozens of people are dead and thousands are still missing three days after the collapse of the hydroelectric dam on Monday, releasing 5 billion cubic meters of water – enough to fill more than two million pools Olympic Games – in the surrounding villages.

Humanitarian aid was handed over to Baykham Khattiya, deputy minister of labor and social affairs by Singapore's ambassador to Vientiane Dominic Goh and commander of the SAF mission, Colonel Mohd Fahmi Aliman, director of Changi Regional Humanitarian Aid. Relief Coordination Center (RHCC).

Relief packages include tents, meal rations, bottled water and SAF medical supplies.

SAF also donated five dinghies with outboard motors to help save water.

A second RSAF C-130 will leave on Friday. The flight will include officers from the Singapore Civil Defense Force, who will also deliver 11 large modular tents to assist relief efforts.
