SINGAPORE – While humans may have difficulty locating survivors in the rubble of a collapsed building, snake-shaped robots can move into confined spaces and participate in such search operations and rescue. 19659002] The potential of "snake robots", which are developed by research institutions around the world, has aroused the interest of the researcher of the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr. Ma Jun.

Singaporean, 27, wants to advance the field by developing control algorithms for these robots, allowing them to move independently and avoid obstacles.

As part of a global Commonwealth Scholarship program, Dr. Ma will spend three months at University College London (UCL) next year (2019) to collaborate with researchers on the development of snake robots.

Dr. Ma told the Straits Times: "The research group I am going to join at UCL has a wealth of experience in the field of control, automation and robotics."

"Therefore, it's a good opportunity to study enriching my research experience and improve my research capabilities in the field of robotics," he added.

Tuesday (July 31), Dr. Ma and two other Singaporeans received the Commonwealth Wightman Singapore Scholarship at an event held at his official residence at the Eden Hall of Nassim Road.
