CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Some brands of high VALSARTAN blood pressure medications are being recalled
The FDA has alerted doctors and patients to a voluntary recall of several drugs containing the active ingredient valsartan, used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. This recall is due to traces of an impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), has been found in some products. According to the results of laboratory tests, NDMA is a carcinogen.
Drugs containing valsartan are not all affected or recalled. The discovery of NDMA was unexpected and would be linked to changes in the way the active substance was manufactured.
