Mr. Editor,

I read Alex Tan's point of view about the ongoing trial before the committee and I felt compelled to express his opposition to a misguided message that seeks to divide the attention people on the crucial question under examination: Singapore could wake up tomorrow at the prospect of a total dictatorship Representation of the opposition in Parliament!

The STR editorial indicating where and how to draw the front line for the scheme also seems wrong. The 33 million that the lawsuit seeks to recover from the 3 deputies of the WP are due to the funds of the municipal council and not to the PAP, as alleged.

He further suggests letting MPs go bankrupt, as it would be "preferable" for Aljunied to return to the PAP so that Singaporeans from other constituencies could vote to change the government.

This is the typical behavior of a keyboard warrior and someone so far away, who is so detached from ordinary Singaporeans to really understand what is happening in the ground. Ironically, it is the same person who has accused other opposition leaders of being opportunists who do not work hard.

Although I know very little about the PPP, the DPP, the NSP and the PR, they are at least based in Singapore instead of seeking refuge in a remote place while wanting to influence local politics. They are here to stay and help in the fight against political oppression and structural injustices.

Do WP deputies deserve to be saved? Our every penny! I only hope that they will emerge stronger after this ordeal and better understand the sacrifices made by civil activists such as PJ Thum, Jolovan Wham and Seelan Palay, for the sole purpose of raising awareness of societal injustices.
