Strengthening security in educational institutions, printed letters and news

[ad_1]

The recent news of a murder at the College Central campus of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) raised the issue of safety in some of our educational institutions ( Fatal stabbing on the campus Ang Mo Kio ITE, July 20). In general, polytechnics, universities, and ITE colleges are more accessible to the public because of the facilities – such as food – that they provide.

Security protocols can be more easily violated because the movements of strangers can not be rigorously monitored. 19659004] Threats to the safety of students and staff also increase when the parking of a school, for example, is easily accessible to the public.

Such campuses may also be more vulnerable to any terrorist attack or hostage situation.

the institutions here – whether tertiary or non-tertiary – need to strengthen their security measures and reassure stakeholders that they are able to provide a safe and supportive environment for students and staff.

As a Polytechnic student, I hope that the authorities will ensure that all schools and all campuses apply and maintain stringent security measures.
