The improvements on the M5 contest should be improved to 11.
Most of the time, automakers are wrapping new prototypes in camouflage coatings. Sometimes, however, the changes may be so minimal that additional coatings are not worth the effort or may have the opposite effect of drawing attention to things that might otherwise go unnoticed. We do not know if either scenario matches the photos of a BMW M5 doing laps at the Nürburgring, but if they are what we think, BMW officials have planned something special for sports sedan lovers.
Our point of view on the BMW M5:
There are rumors that a CS version of the M5 may be available, and while these photos may not be overwhelming evidence, they support this argument. Of course, the M5s fly around the Ring regularly, but take a look at the spoiler on the trunk of this car. This is very reminiscent of the wing we see on the M3 and M4 CS models, and has nothing to do with the BMW Performance Parts Catalog.
It may not be very impressive, but these photos also present a bit of context on the part of our collaborators in the field. This same car was seen moving to the BMW M test center at the Nürburgring and it was determined that the brakes were also ceramic carbon – elements that are part of the CS packaging of the aforementioned models.
If it 's good of a test car for an M5 CS, what else can we expect? It is unlikely that the M5 Competition will increase its power because this animal already produces 617 hp with its 4.4-liter V8 bi-turbo. Additional aerodynamic modifications would probably be needed, as well as lightweight components to lighten the engine load. In short, it should be an extremely fast sedan.
This is the first time we have caught the M5 of the current generation in such a dress and we will be watching the next developments closely.
