More debut Renault Megane RS Trophy Hardcore with 300 horsepower
It's only that last year that Renault introduced its all-new hatchback sedan – the Mégane RS. It was powered by a 1.8-liter turbo engine that produced 280 PS and came with all the properties of a proper hot hatch. Now, a more hardcore, performance-oriented version has been revealed nicknamed the Megane RS Trophy.
On the outside, it looks like the standard Megane RS. That's because Renault has decided to focus on the subframe and the engine of the hot sedan. The only telltale sign would be the exclusive 19-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone S001 high-performance tires. In 2019, an optional 19-inch wheel will reduce weight by 2 kg per wheel and will be equipped with Bridgestone S007 tires.
Performance, the turbocharged four-cylinder 1.8 liter now produces 300 hp, 20 hp more than the stock. The torque has also increased compared to the original 390 Nm of the standard Megane RS, but varies depending on the transmission. It is rated at 400 Nm when paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and 420 Nm with an automatic dual-clutch.
With the power increase, the Trophy goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.7 seconds. The top speed is estimated at 260 km / h, 5 km / h more than Megane RS. That said, these numbers come from the manual variant. It is expected that the dual-clutch model will be even faster
In addition to the power increase , the chassis has been improved to improve handling. The Trophy uses the Cup chassis and is equipped with a stiffer suspension as well as a limited slip Torsen differential. There are also new lighter front brake discs that reduce the unsprung weight of 1.8 kg to each wheel. Renault then hired the Nico Hulkenburg Formula 1 driver to help develop the model. Buyers can specify their vehicles with optional Alcantara covered Recaro seats.
Given the specifications of the new Megane RS Trophy, one wonders if it was destined to face the Honda Civic Type R. Paper, he is also able to go from start to finish with Honda's hot sedan, even in the Nurburgring. That said, given the opportunity to own both, which one would you prefer to choose?
