According to a new MIT study, laser technology on Earth could help find alien intelligence, if it exists somewhere in our galaxy, according to Phys.org.
The beacon would look like an interplanetary porch light powerful enough to attract ET's attention as far as 20,000 light-years away.
The research paper suggests that a high-power laser focused in a huge 45-meter telescope and directed into space would produce a beam of infrared radiation that would detach from the intense energy of the Sun.
The signal could be detectable by extraterrestrial astronomers, especially if they live in nearby solar systems, such as Proxima Centauri, which is the closest star to the Earth.
The signal could be seen as far as TRAPPIST-1, a star located 40 light-years from Earth, and hosting seven exoplanets, three potentially habitable.
If the signal is spotted by extraterrestrial astronomers, the same laser can be used to send a brief message similar to the Morse code.
