[MONTREAL] The number of air passengers could double to 8.2 billion in 2037, boosted by strong demand in Asia, but global protectionism may curb growth, announced Wednesday the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to forecasts, IATA expects a compound annual growth rate of 3.5% of the number of passengers. But the managing director, Alexandre de Juniac, told the press that protectionism had already weighed on the group's latest forecasts, with 60 million fewer passengers expected to fly in the next 20 years.
