SINGAPORE: The SP group announced Thursday (Oct. 25) that it would build 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations by 2020, double the original target set in June.

In addition, a quarter of the 1,000 charging points will be of very high power, to support future models of electric vehicles with larger batteries and greater autonomy. These chargers will have powers of up to 50 kW, SP said in a press release.

The company had previously announced that it would build 50 kW DC chargers capable of fully charging a car in 30 minutes.

The charging points will be located in shopping centers, residential areas, business parks and industrial sites, as well as near cafes and restaurants, said SP.

He added that he plans to extend these charging services to more vehicles in the future, including large commercial vehicles such as buses and other heavy commercial vehicles.
