In different latitudes the level of alcohol consumption is different.
A group of scientists from USA, Mexico and Spain studied the alcohol consumption by the inhabitants of 193 countries and the 50 U.S. States and bound the data obtained with the climatic conditions, according to the Chronicle.info with reference to Stranaya.

Scientists from the University of Pittsburgh under the leadership of Ramona Bataller calculated the proportion of drinkers among citizens aged 15 years and older in 193 countries, the percentage of heavy drinkers (those within 30 days consumes more than 60 grams of pure ethanol).
As the main climatic parameters of the country were mean annual temperature, were also taken into account the average number of Sunny hours. A more detailed analysis was also conducted at 50 U.S. States and their component 3144 districts.
The researchers found that the average temperature and number of Sunny hours back correlated with the amount of alcohol consumed per year liters of alcohol per capita (Spearman’s coefficient -0.5 and -0,57, respectively). A significant correlation was found between temperature and frequency of the Sunny weather and the number of heavy drinkers, as well as between the temperature and frequency of the Sunny weather and the number of cases of liver cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse. The last parameter (proportion of patients) correlated with the number of gallons consumed per year of alcohol per capita.

The authors claim that they have tried to consider all possible side variables that could affect the level of the drinking population in the country, for example, religion.
The reasons for this (the scientists also suggest that it is causal) can be different: it is believed that alcohol is used as a means of vasodilation – expansion of blood vessels, which leads to increased blood flow to smooth muscles and acts as a warming means.
Dependence may also be related to the fact that it depends on the weather and the level of mental disorders, including depression, which, in turn, is also associated with alcohol abuse.
As for the recommended dose alcohol consumption, but this year it has been published several scientific reviews offering it to settle. First, the researchers proposed to reduce the rate to 100 grams of ethanol per week, and then completely abolished the safe dose.
