Ford Associates with Pursuit Systems for a Modified ST Edge Camera Car
An action movie would not be complete without the inclusion of a high speed car chase and adrenaline loaded. Of course, the fight scenes and the pistol fights are just as intense, but there is something in the high speed chases that makes it even better.
Ford seems to have thought of it just after teaming up with the camera car manufacturer, Pursuit Systems. Say hello to the car Ford Edge ST camera; designed and built to film high speed chase scenes and other action sequences difficult to capture for movies and commercials.
With its highly-tuned turbocharged V6, agile maneuverability and relatively high ride height, it features a fast tracking vehicle to capture the perfect shot.
"Speed, acceleration, braking, maneuverability, even space – Edge ST has it all. Our shoots often require a lot of the equipment we use, especially vehicles. Edge ST is measured in every respect, "said Mike Johnson, racing driver, stuntman and CEO of Pursuit Systems.
Starting with the most obvious upgrade on Edge ST, the crossover gets a rooftop remote-controlled crane that holds the camera. It has a gyrostabilized support that keeps it stable in all road conditions and able to capture different angles thanks to the extendable crane arm. The interior, on the other hand, was emptied in order to leave more room to the shooting equipment, as well as to the crew.
Under the hood, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 bi-turbo. In stock version, the six-cylinder engine develops a power of 335 hp and a torque of 515 Nm. However, with the addition of a crane and other camera equipment, Ford has tuned the engine to compensate for the additional weight of 453 kg. Power is transferred to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to improving engine performance, Ford has also installed other equipment to allow it to keep pace with the action. It is equipped with an air suspension that allows to manage the weight increase, a roll bar to protect the occupants and additional wiring for video monitors allowing the Crew to watch footage in real time.
"We've never done the same thing with an SUV before, because there's never been an SUV like Edge ST in our showroom. It has the performance and utility to keep up with the pace of cinema, "said Mark Grueber, Director of Marketing at SUV Ford.
The Ford Edge ST camera car will join the fast fleet of Pursuit Systems, consisting of a BMW X5 M, a Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo as such.
