Two motorcyclists collapse after the taxi driver opens the door in the middle of the highway

With a momentum from the door of his car, a taxi driver crushed two track-breaking motorcyclists on the asphalt along the Seletar Expressway (SLE).

Captured on a dashboard camera, an excerpt from the crash was shared on Singapore Road Accident's Facebook page today, but it's unclear when exactly this happened. The accident allegedly took place on the SLE near the exit of the Bukit Timah highway.

According to the images, it would appear that a ComfortDelGro taxi was stopped by a car and that drivers of both vehicles stopped in the middle of the highway to inspect the damage. However, the taxi driver did not see a motorcyclist filter between his lane and the next. So, when the cabin door was wide open, the motorcyclist brushed it and threw it violently on the road. The bike skidded further, and another motorcyclist just behind could not avoid it, flipping his own vehicle over the fallen vehicle.

The video is cut before we can see what happened next, but another motorcyclist stopped by the side of the road to help the victims on the ground.

Technically, there is no explicit law allowing and prohibiting motorcyclists from splitting lanes. Nevertheless, it still represents a risk for runners and riding between lanes reduces their proximity to other vehicles, giving them a greater chance of hitting inattentive drivers.
