Facebook has recently closed "Lifestage", its stand-alone social network application published a year ago for high school students. The Snapchat type app was intended to help teens find and connect with other classmates who attended their school. Only users aged 21 and under can register.

The tech giant has launched an email service offering users an @ facebook.com address in November 2010. It was however dropped after Facebook admitted that a majority of people did not use it.

Just months after the launch of Snapchat 's competitor, Riff, a collaborative video creation application for iOS and Android users in 2015, Facebook has plugged the plug.
However, the technology giant said that most of the application's features had been integrated with the main Facebook application and Messenger.
No takers for paper

Facebook closed Paper in 2016, two years after its launch, Paper, a stand-alone iOS application that is part of News Feed and also a news reader. The application has changed the user experience with customizable sections for politics, technology, food and other topics. However, the application that impressed the critics failed to attract a large audience and was therefore closed.

Slinging a Dud!

Facebook's third attempt to capture Snapchat's market, named Slingshot, is also crushed. Even though the idea was to make Slingshot more than a Snapchat clone, you could only see an incoming message that after sending a photo to the sender, Facebook failed to conquer the market.
The application was discontinued and removed from the App Store and the Google Play Store in December 2015, after Facebook closed its Creative Labs division.
