Francesco Bagnaia opened a 16-point lead in the Moto2 championship after winning his fourth win of the season at Assen in the final round. Miguel Oliveira remains in second place but can only handle sixth place; his closest rival Alex Marquez, who returned to third place, reduced the gap by 24 points to 18 for the Portuguese
. Each of the top three has taken five podiums so far, with only Marquez recording a DNF. Four of Bagnaia's podiums were race victories, however
Oliveira won only once, with Marquez still winning in 2018. Eight Moto2 races were run on the circuit and the only rider to have won more on one occasion is Marc Márquez, Alex's older brother.
