In a recent Forbes article, astronomer and writer Ethan Siegel called for a new large particle collider. His reasoning was unusual.

Typically, particle colliders are created to test theories – calculations by physicists show that undiscovered particles should exist, and experimenters use colliders to check if that is the case. This was the case of the large hadron collider built in Europe with the express purpose of detecting the Higgs boson. He achieved this task by getting a Nobel Prize for the theorists who predicted the particle.
