Singles host Chris Harrison apologizes to Rachael Lindsay

Usually it’s the contestants who fall for The Bachelor, but this time the controversy has grown so great that it has Chris Harrison in its clutches. Wednesday, The single person The host apologized for ‘perpetuating racism’ on social media after speaking up for Bachelor candidate Rachel Kirkconnell after photos emerged of her attending a formal plantation-themed fraternity before war in 2018. Harrison first defended Kirkconnell in an interview on Additional with first Black Bachelorette, Rachael Lindsay, saying Kirkconnell was “cast to the wolves” by the public. “While I am not speaking for Rachel Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for mercy by offering her the opportunity to speak on her own behalf,” Harrison wrote. “What I realize now is causing harm by speaking wrongly in a way that perpetuates racism, and I am deeply sorry for that.” Harrison went on to apologize to Lindsay specifically for “not listening to her better on a topic that she has firsthand knowledge of” and vowed to “do better” in the future. Kirkconnell, who is embroiled in several race-related scandals, is still in the running to be engaged to Matt James, who happens to be the first black bachelor in franchise history. Well, the hometown dates will surely be interesting this year, right?
