Sirhan Sirhanwho shot and killed Robert F. Kennedy In 1968, he was hospitalized after being stabbed in a prison near San Diego, officials told The Associated Press Friday. The California Department of Corrections and Reintegration confirmed to CBS News that an inmate had been assaulted at the Richard J. Donovan Penitentiary, where Sirhan is currently in custody.
A spokesman for Cal Fire said his team transported the detainee, who was later transferred to a local hospital.
Officials did not name the detainee directly, but sources confirmed his identity to AP and TMZ, who first reported the stabbing.
On the night of June 5, 1968, the presidential candidate, Robert Kennedy, had just delivered a victory speech after winning the California primary, after being shot three times. He died a day later. Five others were beaten and survived.

Police arrested Sirhan, then 24, on death row but his sentence was changed when California briefly banned the death penalty in the 1970s. He was denied parole several times.
Sirhan confessed to the murder, but said he had no memory of it. Last year, Robert Kennedy Jr. throws doubt on Sirhan's guilt, claiming that after his meeting with Sirhan, he believed himself falsely accused.
He told the Washington Post that after seeing the autopsy report, "I did not think it was a thing I could dismiss. I was disturbed by the fact that the wrong person could have been found guilty of killing my father ".
