Kody Brown admitted his marriage to Meri was never the same after facing a cat fishing scandal.
On Sunday night’s episode of “Sister Wives,” the couple were candid about the experience that impacted the polygamous family. Brown, 52, said after the incident her relationship with Meri, 50, broke.
In 2015, Meri revealed that she was catfished after forming an online relationship with someone she believed to be male, People magazine reported. However, the person turned out to be an admirer. Brown and Meri entered therapy to deal with the emotional fallout, but the Patriarch later said he no longer wanted to be intimate with her.
Brown and his four wives share 18 children.
“About five years ago, Meri and I were in a bad situation,” he explained, quoted by the outlet. “She basically asked me to stop staying at her house and what eventually happened was she had an experience where she was catfished by someone pretending to be someone.” else.

According to Brown, Meri’s online relationship “has proven to be extremely abusive and abusive.”
“And from that experience, Meri and I kind of saw our marriage dissolve,” he added.
Meri told cameras that at the time of the scandal, Brown was “more distant than I wanted.”

Brown agreed with his first wife’s observation.
“The catfish situation and basically the year before, whatever happens it got really ugly,” he said. “And even a year after living in Flagstaff, [Arizona], I still had a lot of bitterness about our past. Over the past few months, I have been able to really let go. And I feel friendlier to Meri than I have felt in six or more years. “
Brown clarified that although he and Meri are on more friendly terms, he still doesn’t want to be intimate with her.
“That doesn’t mean I have romantic inclinations within our marriage,” he says.
Brown and his family were living apart in four separate houses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Brown and Meri married in 1990. Three years later, the couple welcomed their sister Janelle into their plural marriage, followed by Christine in 1994. Robyn joined the family as the fourth wife in 2010.
Brown was only legally married to Meri. However, Meri agreed to divorce Brown so that he could marry Robyn in 2014. This legal change would allow Robyn’s three children from a previous marriage to access the same benefits as Brown’s other children.
Brown said he considered himself “spiritually” married to his four wives.
“Sister Wives,” a reality TV series on TLC, aims to show how Brown and his family navigate a world that seems to shy away from their lifestyle. The series has aired since 2010.
Being married to more than one person or having bigamy is illegal in the United States. The law in the very Mormon Utah is considered stricter because of a unique provision that prohibits married people from living with a second “spiritual spouse.”

In 2019, Brown told Fox News the family agreed not to consider a fifth wife anytime soon.
“We really took the fifth woman thing off the table a long time ago,” Brown said. “And because we don’t want to snub the concept, we’ve always dismissed it very casually, and I think that’s one of the reasons the question keeps coming up.
