Six family members died in an apparent murder-suicide in suburban Dallas after two brothers made a suicide pact that included the deaths of the other parents, police said.
Allen’s police discovered the dead after a worried friend called the police around 1 a.m. Monday, worried someone was suicidal, Police Sgt. Jon Felty said.
“The two brothers had made a deal that they were going to kill themselves, and from there he went where the whole family was taken with them,” Felty said.
One of the brothers described in an Instagram post what happened or was going to happen, Felty said.
One brother was 19 and the other 20, he said. The victims included a grandparent, two parents and a sister, he said.
Police identified the dead on Monday as the 54-year-old father, Towhidul Islam; Iren Islam, 56-year-old mother; Grandmother Altafun Nessa, 77; Tanvir Towhid, 21; and 19-year-old twins Farbin Towhid and brother Farhan Towhid, according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
Neighbors told the station they were stunned by the discovery. “The family is a very nice and happy family,” said friend Deelra Hassan.
Police had no substantial contact with the family other than a door call in 2018, Felty said. He said the evidence suggests the murders took place on Saturday.
Felty said the family was from Bangladesh and investigators found family members in Florida on their way to Texas.
“We’ve never had an incident like this in the 21 years I’ve been here,” Felty said. “… It’s just a tragedy. There’s no other way to describe it. It’s a tragedy you just can’t imagine.”
The police investigation was underway on Monday.
The letter posted on social media said the brothers were planning to shoot family members and then themselves to death and mentioned that they were clinically depressed, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported.
Allen is a suburban town of about 105,000 people north of Dallas.
