Due to the ongoing pandemic and associated travel restrictions and lockdowns, Rainbow Six has not attended an international event since the Six Invitational 2020, where Spacestation Gaming has returned home with the title.

Now, a year later, the top 20 teams are set to meet again in the most anticipated tournament to date.

With all the details on the tournament format, location and date now revealed, here’s what will happen next month at the Six Invitational 2021.

Together, these six LATAM teams add up to five EU and NA teams and only four APAC teams.

Format

These 20 teams will be divided into two groups of 10 as follows:

  • group A: BDS, C9, Liquid, DZ, oNe, Empire, FaZe, G2, CAG and FURIA
  • Group B: TSM, Giants, NiP, SSG, Wildcard, Vp, OxG, MIBR, Altiora and Mkers

This distribution is done using seeds determined by the SI points, which means that it is not necessary to do a sowing demonstration as previous years have seen.

Specifically, this means that four of the ten teams in Group A are from Latin America, while four out of five North American teams are from Group B.

The group stage will see each team play against all other teams in their group once in a Best-of-One (Bo1) round robin format, much like the APAC North and European League (EUL) formats.

After the initial group stage, the top eight teams will move up to the top bracket of the playoffs, while the next eight teams will go straight to the bottom bracket and the bottom four will be eliminated.

These playoffs will all be best of three (Bo3) with a best of five grand finale (Bo5).

This creates an event of around 111 matches, including 90 Bo1 and one Bo5, designed to maximize the number of matches for the first international event in a year.

Date and place

The tournament will take place from February 9 to 21, in three weeks, with the following schedule:

  • February 9-14 – Group stage
  • February 17-21 – Playoffs

All of these games will take place in Paris, France, where the main European studio and APAC are located.

To make this happen, players will undergo a seven-day quarantine before the event, present a negative PCR test before flying to France, and maintain strict separation between the teams. This is about creating a bubble environment where players are tested regularly, wear masks almost all times, and leave the bubble within 48 hours of being eliminated.

Thus, to maintain a high level of security, the event was organized with the help of the French government to stop the spread of COVID-19 in teams during the event.

It’s also worth noting that only six people per team are allowed to attend the event for obvious reasons, meaning many co-coaches, analysts and managers will not be able to attend.

Showmatch

A $ 50,000 charity showmatch will also take place, featuring the following teams:

Big Brain Maestro HandsMacieJay, FastAnne, Kitty, CoconutBruh and CrossArchon

All Aim Ash HandsBikiniBodhi, Snedger, Jericho, NarcholepticNugget and Sasslyn

The ESL logo in the graphics above is particularly interesting to note about this match, implying that they will be involved in the game. Since the end of the Pro League last year, ESL has only hosted competitions in the APAC region, while FACEIT has led NA and EU, making it an odd choice.

Reward

The Six Invitational prize pool is capped at $ 3 million again this year, with sales of the recent Battlepass adding to the purse. If it hits the $ 3 million figure as expected, that leads to the following allocation of the prize pool:

  • 1st place: 1,000,000 USD
  • 2nd place: $ 450,000
  • 3rd place: $ 240,000
  • 4th place: $ 170,100
  • 5th – 6th places: $ 135,000
  • 7th – 8th places: $ 102,600
  • 9th – 12th places: $ 75,000
  • 13th – 16th places: $ 60,000
  • 17th – 20th places: $ 30,000
