The bodies of four people and one injured were found by the authorities after a 911 call Saturday to a house located about an hour northeast of Nashville near the Kentucky state border. .
A fifth person was found murdered in another house not far from there, said the TBI.
On Sunday, the authorities announced that they found the body of another victim in the same home as the four victims, bringing the death toll to six.
The authorities did not specify how they were killed or how the victims were linked to each other.
Cummins, 25, was identified as a suspect and was found by a search plane in a bed of a creek about a kilometer from the first house.
More than a dozen officers from SWAT's Sumner County team found Cummins in the creek, TBI said.
"The situation has worsened, for reasons that were the subject of an investigation, and at least one officer fired with his service weapon, hitting Cummins," the BIT said. His injuries are not considered life threatening, and no officer was injured.
The authorities were still trying to identify the victims and inform their family members on Sunday afternoon.
The motive of the suspect and his relations with the victims are still the subject of an investigation, the BIT said.
