Skull Session: Urban Meyer talks about strength in Cincinnati’s schedule, Michigan could be really slim at quarterback and Mel Tucker is familiar with Justin Fields

Ohio State played a football game in about a month. I am ready for that to change.

Word of the day: loyalty.

SOS. Future Texas head coach Urban Meyer is undoubtedly busy these days, but he took some time off his busy schedule to tell us how Cincinnati could have a more solid schedule and therefore a better one. Playoff resume as Ohio State.

Ohio state is in a strange position, as the Buckeyes are No.4 in the college football playoff standings and may not have the chance for an elite win on the schedule. Games remain against Michigan State and Michigan leading up to the Big Ten title game, but Ohio State looks unlikely to end the season with a top 10 victory.

This raises questions as to whether a team below Ohio State could pass the scarlet and gray. That’s an odd possibility to think about, as an undefeated Big Ten team would normally never have a problem getting into the CFP. Of course, this is not a normal year.

Urban Meyer said on “Breaking the Huddle” with Joel Klatt that the team to watch as the Ohio State competition isn’t necessarily Florida or Texas A&M outside of the SEC, however. It is the enemy of the Cincinnati State.

“If the state of Ohio plays and they don’t have a chance of beating a good team other than Indiana – because you look at the Michigan state record and Michigan state does is not a good team, ”Meyer said. “You look at the Wolverines, they’re not a good team. They are really struggling. They could end the season with an (impressive) win and you see Alabama have all of those wins. Can you tell me that Cincinnati has a worse schedule than Ohio? No.”

Here’s the thing – he’s not wrong, but I’m going to need people to stop acting like Cincinnati has run the gauntlet this season. Of course, the schedule is a bit more difficult, but the Bearcats also have a lot of wins against a ranked team than I do. And there’s a chance Ohio State will end up unbeaten with two wins over ranked opponents, at least one of whom will likely be a Top 15 team.

Plus, a tougher schedule doesn’t mean Ohio State won’t outright fan Cincinnati if they ever meet on the football field, and the committee is definitely taking that into account.

PASSING BIZARRE. The game likely won’t take place this year unless Michigan can magically get its COVID-19 situation under control by next week.

But if the game is played, it looks like things could get a little weird for the Wolverines quarterback, according to the MGoBlog Roundtable podcast.

“Do the Michigan fans really want to go back to Columbus with Dan Villari starting his first game and no quarterback? Because I think from what I’ve seen from Joe Milton especially the last one? pass who was a grounder, that he’s injured, and it’s obvious that Cade McNamara is injured, probably injured entering the match, certainly injured halfway through the game.

“I agree with you, Craig. I think if Michigan ends up playing this game against Ohio State, I think there’s a good chance Dan Vilari is the quarterback, you overheard them talking about the fact that Joe Miltion had been injured too – there was a question of whether he was even going to dress the last game. … we’ll see how things go next week. But I’m not going into an Ohio state week knowing for sure that one of the starting quarterbacks will be available for this contest. They might be in a situation where Dan Villari is the only guy they have to this match. ”

“And Hasan Haskins is the replacement, he runs wild cats and he can throw the ball a bit. And that’s what it would look like. And is this a game that Ohio State really wants to play? “

Is this a game we really want to play? My friend, I don’t want anything anymore!

Think that just because your team is in shambles, Ohio State fans wouldn’t have a year of joy putting him in a trash can for four hours? Sir, this has been the reality of this damn game for almost two decades. Nothing is different just because you might not have a quarterback.

And since when is “having a quarterback” a requirement of your team? We are only three years from Jim Harbaugh allowing a comrade named John O’Korn to lead the offensive. Are you really going to tell me that Dan Villari (however, Hand – I had never heard of this kid in my life until today), or even Hassan Haskins, for that matter, is much worse than that?

Oops

Finally, if the tables were turned, you can bet Ohio State fans would be * begging * for the chance to get rid of your sad ass with a quarterback on the third string or a running back under. the center.

So I guess we just live in different realities which is totally fine and fine! It’s just that our reality ends with the pursuit of national championships. And we haven’t seen the bottom of yours yet.

FAMILIAR FOE. This may be the first time Mel Tucker has faced him as a head coach, but he’s already familiar enough to see his defense cheated by Justin Fields.

To be fair, he’s probably seen a lot more of Jake Fromm in practice, which is never going to stop being hilarious for me.

WELCOME TO THE HOUSE. It looks like God gave Mike Conley a nice little welcome home gift last night.

I’m sure there’s a scientific or meteorological reason why my brain is too small to comprehend, but Ohio’s sunsets really are there, almost any time of the year.
