EXCLUSIVE: Skydance Media Seeks To Revive A Classic Family Franchise As Deadline Sources It Has Opted For The Rights To Reinvent Success Spy kids franchise alongside Spyglass Media Group and creator Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez will return to write and direct the next film which will revolve around the activities of a multicultural family.
Spyglass has the Spy kids franchise and in recent months, Skydance has been intrigued by intellectual property as it seeks to diversify its slate. For this upcoming installment, Skydance will serve as lead studio and oversee development and production while Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will be executive producers.
Before launching the Spy kids franchise, Rodriguez was best known for his adult action films like Desperado and From dusk till dawn but wanted to do something for her children. He came up with the idea of a group of siblings who took over the family business to save their secret agent parents from harm. The first film was a massive $ 112 million domestic box office hit and launched three sequels that collectively grossed over $ 550 million at the global box office.

While Rodriguez is still best known for his action thrillers like those of the 20th century Alita: Battle Angel, he recently returned to the family genre with Netflix We can be heroes. Then he has the thriller Hypnotic with Ben Affleck and will then tour The Mandalorian spin off Boba Fett’s book, which will bow next Christmas.

Spyglass has several projects in development including a new Hellraiser film with David Bruckner as well as the next episode of the Yell franchise, which has just finished filming.
