BRUSSELS, July 6 (WebNoviny.sk) – The European Commission (EC) has concluded that Slovakia's plan to reduce the nuclear tax for certain companies requiring the consumption of electricity is in line with the rules of the State aid

This measure will contribute to the competitiveness of these companies without unduly distorting competition in the common market, the European Commission announced on its website on Friday

Slovakia intends to grant, from 2019, a subsidy for nuclear energy to certain energy-intensive industrial enterprises to which it is entitled to pay for electricity

Restriction in case of significant electricity consumption

The RS has submitted this measure to the European Commission for reconsideration. The EC concluded that the nuclear abstraction concession is limited to companies operating in electricity-consuming sectors, which are affected by international trade and are proportionate

It is important, in the view of the EC, that concessions provide a sustainable basis for the safe and timely decommissioning of obsolete nuclear power plants in Slovakia without compromising the competitiveness of firms affected by international trade
