BRATISLAVA. For four years, authorities were unable to manage unauthorized stands in the center of Bratislava, on the main square, which burned in the center and damaged one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.

The monuments of December 2014 decided that the stands had to be removed before the Art Nouveau Palace of Uherské banka. The city claims to have no authority.

The Regional Monument Authority sent a request to the landowner and operator Roland Café, who was standing in front of the stands, to the city of Bratislava.

Who failed?

"The call for the suppression of the stands was launched in the main city only to the attention of the relevant building authorities, and this is the case in the case of the Old Town Building Office", said Zuzana Onufer, spokesman for the city.

The mayor of the old town, Radoslav Števčík, said that the administrator of the main square was the municipality. "The building authority decides to remove the building by itself, it does not decide to remove the outer cabins, which is eliminated in the administrative procedures by the head of communications," he said.

Even the memorial office in the December 2014 letter does not mention the Old Town Building Office.

No permission

The city admits that it has a long-standing problem with the owner of the stand, which is partially hitting the city's land.

Last week, they spoke to the speaker and invited him to move the booth. Last year, the owner fined the city a thousand euros, said Onufer.

However, Matej Vagač, the Matej Vagač MP, who entrusted the memorial to the monument, said the area around the monument should be protected within 10 meters.

"The law prohibits activities in the immediate vicinity of a cultural monument that could jeopardize monumental values," wrote Vagač, who will also be deputy to the city since December, replacing the new mayor, Matus Valla.

Since the authorities had not solved the problem four years ago, Vagac made new suggestions last week.

He asked the landowners to order the restoration of the building and fined the owners of the stalls. The Regional Monuments Office did not reveal how he handled the complaint. Although he had official hours, no one had heard the phone.

He was not the owner of the Roland Café. The problem will be discussed later.

They did not pay, they had damage

The city council also says that this year, even last year, craftsmen did not ask themselves if they could occupy public spaces. They usually have to pay for it, but the municipality did not specify whether it required payment. In authorized stands, they must also comply with fire and safety regulations, have a fire extinguisher.

The fire broke out in the middle of the afternoon, while the Christmas markets were crowded with people. Firefighters say that it began to appear after the careless exchange of a gas bomb from which gas escaped. Markets were closed, visitors had to leave, only one was injured. Damage to the building was estimated at around 200,000 euros, the static according to the preliminary information was not disturbed.

The center of the city is not the only case when the company's owners opened a Christmas snack kiosk just in front of the historic monument building.
