There is currently no effective vaccination against Zika virus and there are only a few anti-dengue preparations in the test phase. "For us, it is much easier to prevent mosquitoes or viruses from appearing somewhere than to prevent the spread of an already-appearing disease," said study director Colin Carlson of Georgetown University.
It is possible to reduce the risk of infection, for example by using repellents, by installing window protection nets or by removing stagnant water from surrounding areas. But experts say it's more effective to tackle climate change and expand global programs of surveillance and mosquito reduction.

Experts warn that mosquito-borne diseases can occur in densely populated cities; many of their people will be exposed to this virus for the first time. "People who have never met these diseases previously have not created immunity against them" quotes Reuters Carlson. "We fear that there will be a much larger epidemic when these pathogens appear for the first time", he added.
