BANSKÁ BYSTRICA. July 27 will be the longest complete eclipse of the moon in this century
The Observatory of Banska Bystrica on its site informs that near the Moon will be a striking red object – the planet Mars
Just the day of the day, Mars is getting closer to the Earth on its trajectory around the Sun. This is a particularly interesting approach since 2003, and this will only happen again in 2035. Mars appears to us as a bright red-orange star in the constellation Capricorn during this period and is the third brightest object from the sky after the Moon and Venus in summer. Even smaller telescopes (with a diameter of at least 10 cm) will be able to observe different surface structures on the planet, such as polar ice caps or dark volcanic surfaces. At the time of the eclipse, Mars will be near the moon at the bottom right
The Observatory of Banská Bystrica also informs that in case of good weather, it will be possible to watch this phenomenon directly from the observatory.
