Growth in construction output in the euro area slowed sharply in May

Luxembourg, 18 July (TASR) – Construction output in the euro area slowed sharply in May. While in April, it rose more than 1% in monthly terms, it did not even reach 0.5% in May. On the contrary, within the European Union, the pace of growth in production has accelerated. The statistics agency of the European Union Eurostat has published its first estimate

Output in the construction sector of the euro area corrected for seasonal effects increased by 0.3% in May compared with in April, said Eurostat. This means a significant slowdown in growth after 1.4% in April

In the enlarged European Union, output in the construction sector increased by 1.2%. In this case, growth rose by 0.8% in April compared with March

Over twelve months, production in the euro area increased by 1.8% in May and by 2.6% in European Union

In some EU Member States, production in the construction sector increased on a monthly basis (6%), in Slovenia (3,4%), in the Czech Republic and in the Czech Republic. Germany (in both cases, 3.1%)

and France. In Slovakia, construction output decreased by 6% and in France by 3.4%

Construction output rose the most in Slovenia (30.3%), Poland (23.3%) and Hungary (15.2%)). France and Bulgaria again recorded a decline. In France, construction output fell 4.1% year-on-year and 0.4% in Bulgaria
