Bertolucci died Monday at his home in the Italian capital, Rome. The exact causes of his death did not come from the authorities, but he was locked in a wheelchair after a failed lock plate operation. His first film was directed by Bertolucci in 1962.

It was the drama The Death of The Commare Secca, which he shot in the screenplay of another great Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. Among his most famous films are The Last Emperor (1987), for which he won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, or The Last Tango in Paris in 1972.
