Telekom launches a new RCS standard, more advanced SMS

Telekom has made available to its customers a new reporting standard. SCR (Rich Communication Services) supported worldwide will add existing SMS that have been in place for over 25 years. However, the news is only for users of selected Android phones. RCS will use an integrated SMS application

The new standard brings features that you know about messaging applications (Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp, Skype …). For example, RCS will provide access to group reports, file transfer, emoji support, stickers, location sharing and other features. Everything works through data and no matter whether mobile or Wi-Fi

The advantage is that no application or plug-in is required to use RCS. Everything will also be available via the integrated text messaging application on Android phones. It is also an advantage that such a message will always be delivered – if the recipient does not have an active RCS, the message is simply sent as a standard SMS

The new RCS standard will provide added value even for voice calls. Customers with devices running on the Android system will also get:

• Mark an important call before calling – the screen displays the call number as well as the exclamation point for an important call
• Mark the subject of the call: called on the screen to see Short text to indicate the reason for the call
• Photos: Option to insert an image before the call is displayed to the caller when it rings
• Sharing location: Sending a map with a location tag
• during a call
• Messages: Possibility to discuss in parallel with a voice call

Negative is that only smartphone users Samsung Galaxy A3 2017, A5 2017, S7, A6 and Note 8 will be able to use the new features, but the RCS support will happily be added in the coming weeks for others phones from other manufacturers.

These features are available in communication between all users with phones and operators supporting RCS. In Slovakia, this standard is available for Telekom and Orange. If you still want to use standard SMS to send messages, you can disable RCS in your phone's settings.

What should you do to use RCS? You must have a compatible Android smartphone, have an updated operating system, accept the terms of use after updating the software on a version supported by RCS, have an internet connection and, more importantly, meet all these conditions. | Incipio

These are pretty simple. If the message is sent as a standard SMS, you will be billed as well as SMS. If the message is sent as a chat message, the data used to send this message will be taken into account during billing. Calls made are always billed according to the calling program. Advanced call functionality, but consumes data depending on the data package purchased. These are minimal because it is mainly text.
