The new VirtualLink consortium wants to bring a standard that would connect future VR headsets to a single port. The choice should fall on USB-C

The virtual reality market is constantly evolving and the shortcomings associated with it are being phased out. With its headphones, HTC has gone so far as to present its Wireless Wireless Vive Wireless Adapter for its glasses.

The emerging consortium wants to keep the cables, but simplify the connection. The initiative is now supported by companies such as NVIDIA, AMD, Oculus, Microsoft and Valve. The goal is to be a new VirtualLink standard that sends data between the computer and the headset via USB-C

The virtual reality helmets of today require at least three cables that connect to the computer to work properly. Namely, there is HDMI for image transfer, USB data transfer and charging cable. The new standard should use the 6-way USB-C. Four of them would be used for DisplayPort HBR 3 and two for USB 3.1 Gen 2 to provide data transfer and 15 W of power

The new solution could benefit mainly to users who do not have any ports to transfer. However, the new virtual reality headsets should be launched on the market at the earliest, perhaps until next year
