The situation in Ukraine was a major issue, but the meeting also included migration, the Brexite and the Friends of Cohesion meeting.

The main topic of the meeting of Prime Minister Petar Pellegrini (Smer-SD) with the ambassadors of the Member States of the European Union (EU) was the security situation in Ukraine. However, they also spoke about the UN Global Compact, the upcoming Friends of Cohesion meeting at Bratislava Castle and the Brexite Agreement. The press office of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic informed.

Representatives of EU Member States agreed with the Prime Minister that it was necessary to create tension between Moscow and Kiev. The EU must do everything in its power to avoid a conflict that needs to be dealt with diplomatically. At the United Nations Global Compact on Migration, the Prime Minister's ambassadors became familiar with their governments' positions on this document. The Prime Minister has confirmed his opinion on illegal immigration, which he considers a security risk.

The Friends of Cohesion meeting will be held on Thursday 29 November. Its purpose is to signal that the Cohesion Fund remains an important EU instrument that reduces economic and social disparities between EU regions and contributes to the stabilization of their economies. A meeting at Bratislava Castle also takes place on the occasion of the Slovak Chairmanship of the Vyšehrad Group.

The ambassadors also expressed their satisfaction at the conclusion of a contrary agreement and the conviction that the various countries of the Union would approve this agreement as soon as possible in their parliament. The Prime Minister stressed that the only alternative to the EU and NATO was the Slovak Republic and that it was necessary for EU leaders to discuss as much as possible the benefits of membership to these organizations.
