The State Institute for Drug Control (ŠÚKL) ordered the withdrawal from the Slovak market of drugs containing the active substance valsartan. The reason for this is the suspicion of undeclared impurities in the active substance
The decision concerns all batches of Vapress, Vasopentol, Valzap and Valsartan Actavis. They are used to treat high blood pressure, symptomatic heart failure and for treatment after a recent heart attack.
"Since there is no acute risk for patients taking these drugs, abrupt discontinuation of treatment is not recommended.However, it is essential that these patients consult their physician treating, who will prescribe another appropriate treatment, within one month, "informs ŠÚKL.There are several therapeutic remedies available on the Slovak market, treatment of patients is not compromised
Drugs are relocated pan-European level and the European Medicines Agency and the European Quality Office of Drugs are involved in the reduction of quality
