Wolfsburg, July 6 (TASR) – In the first half, VW sold for the first time more than three million passenger cars, best-sellers in Europe and South America. Global sales rose 6.3% year-over-year to 3.12 million cars. In June, the brand sold 534,000 vehicles, or 4.2% more than in June 2017.

In China, which is the largest market for the VW brand, sales were down 1 , 7% in June. The reason may be the limitation of buyers who expect since July 1 a reduction in import duties of 25 to 15%. Since the beginning of the year, VW has sold more than 6% of its vehicles year-on-year. China's share of VW's total sales is about 48%.

"The second half of the year will be much more difficult," warns sales director Jürgen Stackmann . "The transition to the WLTP test cycle should lead to delays in some models."

Automobiles are currently trying to quickly prepare all models and their variants for a binding WLTP test cycle starting September 1st. This cycle should provide more realistic data on consumption and emissions
